In 2025, we ran our first community workation in the Bosnian countryside. No hype. No big promises. Just a simple idea tested in real life:

What happens when you bring an international group of remote professionals to a lesser-known destination, outside peak tourism season — and do it properly?

The answer, at least in Livno, was clear:

👉 real human connections
👉 tangible local impact
👉 and a surprisingly good quality of life for remote workers

That’s why we’re coming back.

This spring, together with Hubs Travel, we’re launching the second edition of our coliving & workation experience in Livno, running from March 15 to June 15, with flexible arrival dates and a minimum stay of one month.

This article brings together everything we’ve shared so far — and adds some deeper context on why Livno works, what makes this setup different, and how these projects fit into a broader vision for more sustainable remote work.

A Simple Concept — Designed for the Long Term

At its core, our workation model is intentionally uncomplicated.

👉 Invite remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to live in one place for 1–3 months
👉 Focus on off-season periods, when destinations need activity the most
👉 Design the experience around integration, not consumption

We’re not interested in short stays that barely scratch the surface. The real value — for participants and for destinations — only appears when people stay long enough to build routines, recognize faces, and feel part of daily life.

Livno proved to be an ideal testing ground for this approach.

Why Livno?

Livno sits on a high plateau in the Dinaric Alps, surrounded by wide-open landscapes that feel almost unreal in their scale. It’s best known — among those who know it at all — for its wild horses. Nearly 1,000 of them roam freely across the surrounding plains.

But while the horses tend to steal the spotlight, they’re only one part of the picture.

What makes Livno special for long-term stays is the combination of:

  • Calm, walkable daily life

  • Reliable internet and solid infrastructure

  • Welcoming cafés and a surprisingly active local scene

  • Affordable housing suited to month-long stays

Despite its natural beauty and strong cultural identity, Livno has largely stayed off the international tourism radar. And that’s precisely what allows it to function so well as a place to live, not just visit.

Remote Work, Without the Bubble

One of the biggest risks of coliving and workation projects is creating an isolated “remote worker bubble” — people living parallel lives to the local community.

We actively design against that.

In Livno, this starts with something very simple: our community managers are locals. They grew up here. They know the town, the rhythms, and the people behind the scenes.

That changes everything.

Instead of being funneled into pre-packaged activities, participants are gradually introduced to:
👉 local cafés and meeting spots
👉 guides, artisans, and outdoor enthusiasts
👉 family-run restaurants and informal gatherings

Connections happen organically — through repetition, curiosity, and time.

What We Learned From the First Edition

Our first workation in Livno confirmed a pattern we’ve seen elsewhere:

Length changes behavior.

When people stay for a month or more:

  • They stop acting like tourists

  • They form routines instead of itineraries

  • They begin contributing, not just consuming

In practical terms, this meant:

  • Regular customers for cafés and restaurants during a quiet season

  • Consistent work for local guides and service providers

  • Conversations that went beyond small talk

The impact wasn’t flashy — but it was real, measurable, and appreciated locally.

The Spring Edition: How It Works

📅 Dates: March 15 – June 15
🧳 Minimum stay: 1 month
🕒 Arrival: Flexible

Participants can choose between:

  • Private ensuite rooms

  • Studios

  • Fully independent apartments

All accommodations are selected with long-term comfort in mind — proper work setups, privacy, and a living environment that supports daily routines.

💸 Pricing starts at €420/month for a private ensuite room, with studios and apartments available at higher tiers. By Western European standards, Livno offers an exceptionally affordable lifestyle without feeling compromised.

Life Beyond Work

This isn’t a retreat packed with back-to-back workshops. But it’s also not a passive rental experience.

The rhythm is deliberately light:

  • Work during the week

  • Shared meals, walks, and conversations

  • Optional activities that encourage exploration

Depending on the week, this might include:
👉 Guided visits to see the wild horses (by 4×4, quad, or hiking)
👉 Hiking, birdwatching, and mountain biking
👉 Paragliding and canoeing in the surrounding region
👉 Bosnian cooking sessions and shared dinners
👉 Casual coworking days and café hopping

Some days are social. Others are quiet. That balance is intentional — and essential for longer stays.

Part of a Larger Network of Hubs

Livno isn’t an isolated project.

Through Hubs Travel, we’re building a growing network of workation destinations across Europe, including:

  • The Swiss Alps

  • Slovenia

  • Norway

  • And several emerging rural and small-town locations

Each destination is different, but the philosophy remains the same:
👉 workations should benefit both participants and places
👉 seasonality can be addressed through mid-term stays
👉 community matters more than buzz

Livno plays a particularly important role in this network. It shows that meaningful workations don’t require famous names or heavy marketing — just the right structure, timing, and local collaboration.

Why This Matters

Remote work has unlocked unprecedented freedom — but it has also amplified imbalances.

Some destinations are overwhelmed. Others are quietly disappearing from the map.

Projects like the Livno workation sit somewhere in between:

  • Redistributing economic activity

  • Supporting local ecosystems outside peak season

  • Offering remote workers a calmer, more grounded way of living

For destinations, the benefits are gradual but durable.
For participants, the reward is something increasingly rare: time, depth, and belonging.

Will We See You in Livno?

If you’re looking for:

  • A place that feels authentic rather than curated

  • Nature without isolation

  • Community without forced networking

…then Livno in spring might be exactly what you’re looking for.

We’ll be there from March 15 to June 15, with stays starting at one month and flexible arrival dates.

Sometimes, the best places to work remotely aren’t the ones everyone is talking about — but the ones quietly waiting to be experienced.
